Take-Two is sticking to the fall release of GTA 6, but Rockstar’s past speaks a different language.

Since the announcement of , hardly a week goes by without new speculation about the release date. Now, in the wake of its latest financial report, Take-Two has reaffirmed that the open-world game is still scheduled for release in fall 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Take-Two remains optimistic – with a small caveat

In the current financial report, Take-Two emphasizes the importance of the coming year and continues to list GTA 6 for fall 2025. Specifically, it states:

Looking ahead, this calendar year will be one of the strongest ever for Take-Two as we plan to launch Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 on February 11, Mafia: The Old Country this summer, Grand Theft Auto 6 this fall, and Borderlands 4.

The company remains confident that GTA 6 will be released as planned. However, CEO Strauss Zelnick hinted in an interview with IGN that this is not set in stone:

Look, there’s always a risk of a delay, and I think once you use words like absolutely you jinx it.

Rockstar’s history speaks for itself

As reassuring as Take-Two’s statements may sound to impatient fans, Rockstar’s past release strategy raises doubts. The studio is known for only releasing its games when they meet its own high standards – even if that means you have to wait longer.

A look back at Rockstar’s history shows that almost every major Rockstar title has been delayed at least once:

  • GTA 4 was originally scheduled for release in October 2007, but was delayed by half a year to April 2008 just a few months before release.

  • GTA 5 was initially announced for spring 2013, but ultimately did not hit the shelves until September 2013.

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 was postponed several times: first from 2017 to spring 2018, then finally to October 2018.

In view of this history, it would come as no surprise if GTA 6 were also delayed and did not come out until 2026.

For the moment, however, Take-Two is sticking to fall 2025. But a lot can happen between now and the actual release – and Rockstar is unlikely to compromise if the game doesn’t meet its quality standards.

But what do you think? Is GTA 6 really going to come out this year? Let us know in the comments!
