EA is apparently planning a digital reissue of the cult games with all the expansions – just in time for the 25th anniversary of the series!

Two real classics could soon be returning to your screens: The Sims 1 and The Sims 2, which laid the foundation for the long-running life simulation series, are expected to be re-released for the PC this week.

Although there is no official date yet, the remake will definitely be ready in time for the 25th anniversary of the Sims series on February 4, thus fulfilling a long-held wish of fans.

This week, nostalgia is supposed to return

The rumor mill has been buzzing for a few days now: It all started with cryptic teasers that EA and Maxis published via the official Sims channels. Profiles were adorned with retro plumbobs (the green crystals above your Sims), videos showed familiar menus from Sims 1, and a new Sims 25 logo appeared:

According to a report by Kotaku the new editions should not only be released this week, but also include all expansion packs of the original games. However, it is not yet clear whether there will also be graphical, technical or gameplay improvements.

Anyone who has ever tried to run the old Sims games on a modern PC knows how problematic this is these days. A modernized version is likely to be very popular with fans.

However, there is bad news for console gamers : At the moment, the re-release seems to be planned exclusively for the PC. It remains to be seen whether EA will make the games available on other platforms at a later date.

While The Sims 4 continues to be regularly updated and expanded, many fans have been waiting for the next major installment in the series. But after rumors of The Sims 5 were finally dismissed, a return to the series’ roots – complete with Comic Sans font and iconic characters like Mortimer and Bella Grusel – might be just what the disappointed fans need.
