The software giant is blowing off the development of two live-service games from Bluepoint and Bend Studio.

It’s not uncommon for studios to scrap projects they’ve already started working on. It seems that Sony has recently done so as well.

About Bloomberg has been revealed to have halted work on two live-service titles being worked on at Bluepoint and Bend Studio. However, a Sony spokesperson confirmed that neither studio would be closed. The two games were canceled “after a recent review,”

Work on new God of War spin-off canceled

As Bloomberg author Jason Schreier on Bluesky ;n;m;tigte, hand;lt sich bei dem Bluepoint-Spiel um ein Live-Service-Spiel im Universum von God of War.

The studio had been working on a new project that was not a remake since the release of Demon’s Souls in 2021. It is reasonable to assume that this was the now-canceled God of War.

The project Bend Studio was working on was also said to be a live-service title. In recent years, Sony has been focusing a lot on multiplayer games that generate money over a longer period of time through constant monetization.

While the system still worked well for Helldivers 2 at the beginning of last year, games like Concord were quickly pulled after release. According to Bloomberg, another live-service project based on Spider-Man had been in development in recent years and was also discontinued.

A spokesperson for Sony said that the affected studios will now work on other projects. It is unknown whether the cancellations will lead to job cuts.

Bend and Bluepoint are high-profile teams that are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine the next projects.

So the year is not starting with the most encouraging news for Sony. A GTA fan project that recently disappeared from the scene due to Rockstar met a similar fate. You can read more about this in the articles linked above.

The situation is quite different for Nintendo, as the Switch 2 was announced a few days ago. You can also find out which games you can expect for the new console above.
