While it is not yet clear on what date Nintendo’s Switch 2 console will be released, there are more and more rumors and hints about the technology
The successor to the popular Nintendo Switch is slowly but surely getting closer. There is hardly any official information, but it is clear that Nintendo will improve the hardware of the Switch 2. But how exactly?
The well-known YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead (MLID) has now commented speculatively on this, more specifically with regard to the resolution and performance compared to Valve’s Steam Deck.
Here are the most important points:
- In his opinion, every Steam Deck game should also run on the Nintendo Switch 2 in terms of performance.
- A possible advantage:The Nintendo Switch 2 could use a higher native display resolution than the Steam Deck.
- The presumed disadvantage:In terms of performance, the Switch 2 will probably not be more powerful than Valve’s Steam Deck, according to MLID.
What this would mean:While games can be played at a higher resolution, frames per second (FPS) will likely be lower.
Specifically, Moore’s Law is Dead cites the following figures:
- A game that can be played at 90 FPS on the Steam Deck is more likely to reach values in the region of 60 FPS on the Switch 2.
- For games with 60 FPS, the version for the Switch could achieve 40 to 45 FPS.
However, this depends not only on the resolution and performance, but also on other factors such as the exact implementation for the respective platform and the use of any upscaling processes.
The resolution of the already released handheld models in comparison:
- The Nintendo Switch supports a resolution of 1280×720 in handheld mode and a resolution of Full HD (1920×1080) in dock mode.
- Valve’s Steam Deck offers a resolution of 1280×800 in handheld mode and a resolution of up to 8K at 60 Hertz in docked mode.
In general: A more reliable assessment can only be made when all the data of the Nintendo Switch 2 is known.
