What will Larian’s next project be? It might be years before we find out, but studio boss Swen Vincke is already promising big things
“This will be our best work yet”: Larian boss Swen Vincke dares to use big words to describe the future of the development studio behind Baldur’s Gate 3 . In this particular case, many fans may be inclined to express a certain amount of advance confidence, after all, the studio’s last two role-playing games were groundbreaking for the genre.
It’s still completely unclear what kind of game Larian will tackle next. The bad news: It certainly won’t be Baldur’s Gate 4. The good news: There are actually two projects in the pipeline!
What Larian is planning for the future
The developers of the best role-playing game of all time (and the equally excellent Divinity: Original Sin 2) definitely want to continue with other games after their clear rejection of another D&D game. Publishing Director Michael Douse made it clear on X (formerly Twitter) that after the five-time BAFTA win, they are ready to move on:

In a Steam update Larian announced that it would focus on its own brands in the future There are currently two unnamed projects in the works, both at an early stage. CEO Swen Vincke added:
I don’t know if we’ll be able to [surpass Baldur’s Gate 3], but when I look at our plans for narrative, visuals and gameplay, I think we’re sitting on our best work yet. I get excited like a kid when I look at the images, wanting to show everyone right now and grumbling in frustration because I have to wait for everything to really work. Yes, it’s hype, but it’s hype because it looks and feels really good.
What could the next games be? A new Divinity: Original Sin would of course be an obvious choice, after all Larian should still have plenty of stories ready for their own fantasy world Rivellon. But perhaps it will also be something completely new – it is also conceivable that they will venture back into strategy after having developed many role-playing games
In any case, Larian has already decided that their next game will once again start with the tried and tested early access model just like Baldur’s Gate 3.
In any case, we will have to be patient (i.e. several years) before the Belgian studio reveals its cards. Baldur’s Gate 4 is to be developed by another studio, and Hasbro says it is currently looking for the right partners. Find out more in the articles linked above!
