Starfield: You can shrink your companion to toy size and that has advantages

With a simple console command you can shrink robot Vasco – and he will no longer block escape routes and corridors

A robot companion like this is actually really handy when you’re out in space in Starfield: it carries your stuff, doesn’t munch on your space sandwiches and can probably even play music somehow. It’s just a shame when the guy gets stuck in a tunnel due to his sheer size just when you’re fleeing from a gang of pirates.

However, there is a solution that is currently receiving a lot of applause on Reddit. But only for the PC version, because you have to enter a console command. We explain how to do it and what it does

Why you should make your companion small

How do I shrink companions?  Open the console menu with the (~) key and click on your companion, for example Vasco. Then enter:

setscale 0.4

Close the menu and marvel at your toy buddy. You can also type in a value other than 0.4, but many on Reddit say this number is particularly practical, as you can then easily jump over Vasco or walk past him. Here you can see him in direct size comparison with a human:

Shrinking Vasco with one console command is a great quality of life improvement

And of course it also works the other way round if you enter a number greater than 1 – then Vasco grows accordingly. However, if you overdo it with this, you should be prepared for a crash

What’s the point?

Vasco has a particularly large hitbox and therefore likes to stand in the way. Or clips through your spaceship. Or blocks the door you just want to go through. This no longer happens in miniature form. You can also shrink your other companions, but of course this comes at the expense of immersion – Vasco, on the other hand, looks great even when scaled down.

Has Vasco ever annoyed you because he blocked a path again or got stuck in a corner? Have you used console commands to shrink your robot friend? Or have you created a metal giant the size of a house? Can you think of any other cases from Bethesda games where a companion sometimes got in the way? Let us know directly in the comments below the article!
