The new Valheim update adds a lot of content and opens up the game to even more tastes. Because you can fine-tune your worlds to your liking with sliders before you start.

The Steam hit Valheim has received a big update with Hildir’s request. Apart from several fixes and smaller additions, new locations, bosses and the eponymous merchant and his warehouse have been added. On top of that, the developers grant you one thing above all: more control over the framework in which the core gameplay of Valheim is embedded.

A bunch of controllers brings freedom

You can now adjust what happens in the world more precisely. For example, battles can be regulated, you can adjust whether you are allowed to use a map or portals, or how rich in raw materials the environment is

If it’s too fiddly for you to touch the options one by one, you can also choose from six different presets, for example:

  • Casual Mode: This makes the game much easier. Enemies only attack you after you have provoked them, there are no more raids on your base, resources are distributed in larger quantities in the game world and you no longer lose items and abilities when you die.
  • Hammer Mode: This mode is reminiscent of the Creative Mode from Minecraft, because here you can build without being bothered. There are no raids on your base and all buildings can be constructed without resource costs.
  • Immersive Mode: Your map will be disabled and you will not be able to use portals to increase immersion.

In addition to these three fundamentally different modes, there are three complementary difficulty levels: Easy, Hard and Hardcore. These make the battles more difficult or easier, heat up raids on your own base or encourage the enemies to laze around so that they let you continue building your Viking dwelling in peace.

What else is included?

On top of that, you’ll get even more variation in clothing and headgear, and the developers are adding three new dungeons and mini-bosses to the world:

  • Smouldering tomb (classic)
  • Howling cavern (classic)
  • Sealed tower (open dungeon)

Are you still exploring the vast procedural worlds of Valheim? What do you think about the game in the meantime? Are the developers on a good course to build on the successes of the first and second hour? What should they do next apart from what has already been announced?
