It’s official: Modern Warfare 3 will carry over weapons, operators and store purchases from the current CoD.

The official Twitter channel of Call of Duty has published the first post about CoD 2023 and specifically addresses a leak.

According to this, unlocked operators, weapons and bundles from the store (e.g. skins) will be carried over from the current Modern Warfare 2 into the new part.

The tweet raises the question rhetorically, the answer options are “Yes” and “Yes, when is the Reveal?”. With this, it is considered certain that MW3 will carry over the progress from its predecessor at release (in October or November 2023).

This is a first for the tradition-steeped shooter series: until now, all CoD spin-offs had their own progression system. In 2023, for the first time, players will not be starting from scratch, but will be able to continue using their arsenal from MW2.

From Leak to Fact

The information was originally spread by the leaker BobNetworkUK. According to the British account, CoD 2023 (which has so far unofficially been called Modern Warfare 3) will introduce a new gear system and bring back the classic minimap.

That the manufacturer is now reacting directly to these leaks is seen by many experts as a signal for the credibility of BobNetwork. The official CoD post on progression was also retweeted by Sledgehammer Games

This confirms the assumption among experts that Sledgehammer is primarily responsible for the new CoD MW3. The studio had developed CoD Advanced Warfare, CoD WW2 and CoD Vanguard.

From DLC to own game

The CoD tweet and leaks are the first confirmed signs of life for CoD 2023, which is said to have initially been an addon for MW2 that was later expanded into its own full-price spinoff.

CoD insiders assume that some content was therefore held back for the new part, although it was initially planned for MW2 Seasons.

For example, classic maps such as Terminal, Quarry or Afghan have been in Warzone for some time, but were never released for multiplayer.
