Yesterday evening, the technology showcase for Layers of Fear took place. In it, the developers talked about the technical features of the horror game and how they make for a unique scary experience.

An unpleasant tingling sensation spreads across your skin, the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Is there someone behind you right now? Horror is much more than just a feeling, it’s a mood that needs to be created by art creators. Bloober Team also wants to create this creepy mood in Layers of Fear (2023). The developers explain which technical tricks in a summary video. More details can be found in the livestream recording on Steam.

To bring you the ultimate horror experience in Layers of Fear, Bloober Team works with Lumen and Raytracing, for example. These two tools create realistic lighting effects, making reflections and light sources look especially real. With the help of the Niagara system particles, such as swirling dust, are supposed to glide naturally through the air and feel real.

Through these tools in conjunction with Unreal Engine 5, the horror community will be treated to an atmospheric fireworks display of creepy effects. However, the question arises how many PC gamers will be able to enjoy this spectacular scary spectacle to the full extent. Furthermore, the question of price remains open. After all, such work should have its price.

Likely, many gamers will have bought a console for this very reason. But reality-scratching games like Layers of Fear or Unrecord set new standards, which have an impact especially in the purchase of new hardware. As we all know, this also comes with a price tag.

Layers of Fear is scheduled for release this June for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
