Ubisoft issued a press release last night. In this one they explain that Skull & Bones is postponed for the now sixth time. The French company has also cancelled three other previously unannounced projects.

You were looking forward to the release of Skull & Bones in March? Sorry, we have to disappoint you. In a press release from yesterday evening, it appears that the pirate adventure will be postponed once again. However, this time Ubisoft did not give a concrete date. Instead, they stated that the title would be released in “early 2023 – 2024”. Since we are probably talking about the fiscal year, the new release period should now be between April and December of this year – if the game is not postponed again by then.

In addition to the new release postponement of Skull & Bones, Ubisoft also declared that they had cancelled three previously unannounced projects. The French company explained these two serious steps by saying that they wanted to establish big brands and were very surprised to find that the two titles Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Just Dance 2023 had underperformed at the end of last year, although they had done well with critics. As a result, the company is now pursuing a new strategy in its financial planning.

The future of Skull & Bones and Co.

Ubisoft’s new financial plan sees Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Skull &
Bones, along with an as-yet unannounced title, are scheduled for release in fiscal year 2023 to 2024. Among the as-yet unannounced games are said to be “a big one” and “some promising free-to-play titles” from Ubisoft’s bigger brands – if they aren’t also scrapped in the coming months.

With this (financial) organisation that Ubisoft has been displaying for quite some time now, the company is unfortunately damaging its credibility. It is difficult for us not to doubt release dates, since announced projects have been postponed so often in the past.
