Is it possible to film a video game in such a way that viewers have the feeling they are watching a Let’s Play? Nintendo and Illumination apparently see no problem in this challenge. The first trailer of the Super Mario Bros. movie was released tonight and already makes you want to see more!

The first main trailer of The Super Mario Bros. Movie almost feels like a gameplay trailer. We see platformer elements, familiar enemies and even a fast-paced game of Mario Kart on Rainbow Boulevard. In addition, we meet Peach, Toad, Luigi, Mario and even the dreaded Bowser. What is particularly positive here is that Peach plays a decisive role and does not just perform the “damsel in distress” as we know from the games.

As the trailer suggests, we seem to be experiencing the beginnings of Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The hero in red seems to be mostly adept at his plumbing craft, but has no experience fighting bad guys. Instead, it seems to be Peach who teaches Mario about the different galaxies and the knowledge hidden within.

With The Super Mario Bros. Movie, we can expect a visually stunning animated firework display that won’t leave a dry eye in the house. No wonder, after all, the English original features the voices of Chris Pratt, Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy and Seth Rogan, among others.
This film adaptation of the cult video game series will be released in cinemas from 23 March 2023. We have another trailer for you in the following post.
