Valve has released a new update for Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Not only are there changes to the map pool, but two of the most popular weapons in the game are affected.

In the latest CS:GO update, Valve has announced that Dust2 has been removed from the active map pool and replaced with Anubis. Also, AWP and M4A1-S have been made weaker.

The new map

Anubis was created by the community and first added to the game in 2020. After being removed from CS:GO in 2021, it returned for the game’s 10th anniversary in August and has since received extensive layout updates.

Weapons Nerfs

The developers have also made adjustments to the AWP and the M4A1-S. The magazine size of the sniper rifle has been reduced from ten bullets to five, and the popular CT rifle now does less damage at long range.

The changes to the M4A1-S come after the community has long called for a nerf of this weapon. Valve had last adjusted the weapon in June when the magazine size was reduced from 25 to 20 bullets. That change had little effect on the weapon’s usage compared to the M4A4, which is currently virtually unused on CS:GO’s top levels.

The AWP gets its first adjustment since 2020, when the movement acceleration was removed after a crouch shot.

The changes follow directly on from the Rio 2022 Major

and come before the 2023 Esports season.
