Developer DICE reveals major updates for Battlefield 2042, with patch 3.2 coming today and a new scoreboard soon after.

After the winter break, developer DICE is back on Twitter with fresh information on Battlefield 2042. After all, the multiplayer shooter was released in November 2021 in a technically poor state and had to listen to a lot of criticism – which has not subsided to this day.

This year, however, things are supposed to get better for the shooter. The first update will be 3.2, which will be released tomorrow. However, the developers have even more in the pipeline, including the implementation of a real scoreboard.

Battlefield 2042: Update 3.2 and Update 3.3 with Scoreboard announced

As announced by DICE on Twitter, the first update of the year for Battlefield 2042 will be released on 20 January 2022. However, update 3.2 will only be a small patch and will bring minor bug fixes as well as stability improvements. Detailed patch notes are to follow later today.

Much more exciting in comparison is the announcement of Update 3.3 This is expected to be released in mid or late February and brings back a feature that fans have actually been wanting for the release: The Scoreboard.

So far, Battlefield 2042 only shows a rough squad comparison and personal statistics in the overview, but an overall view is missing. With update 3.3, DICE tries to combine both worlds and also grants a first impression:

On the new scoreboard you can see several changes: The previous match overview remains, but is compressed. On the left side you will now find the most important information about the current match, your own statistics and your progress with various badges.

The majority of the interface, however, is taken up by the new scoreboard, which displays the active players and AI comrades. The score is weighted according to kills, assists, revives, conquests and defences. The individual categories also have a corresponding multiplier: conquests are worth more than kills and revives, while defences and assists only count as one.

According to DICE, the scoreboard is only the first version, which will be released with update 3.3. Based on feedback, the team plans to further adapt and improve the feature in the future.

What other changes are planned?

In addition to the new scoreboard, DICE also commented on other fan requests on Twitter. Matchmaking preferences and cross-play VOIP are still on the radar, but nothing concrete has been announced yet.

Regarding the XP distribution in Portal, there will be an important change with update 3.2. More servers and game modes will then grant progress in the Mastery and Weekly Missions. Details on this will also follow in the course of the day.

However, there is no information about the start of Season 1, which is supposed to take place at the beginning of 2022. There is only silence from DICE on this – and that doesn’t really bode well:

Battlefield 2042: If the info on Season 1 is true, this will be the death blow for BF2042

But the nail in the coffin is not yet to come for Battlefield 2042. It was only in December that publisher EA finally announced new leadership for the Battlefield brand and big plans for the future. The latest Battlefield continues to play an important role in these plans.
