The latest instalment in the popular God of War series is coming our way soon, as Ragnarok is finally set to release in 2022.

After the last title in the God of War franchise, fans have long wanted another game. Now, over three years later, that wish is set to come true. After the release was originally planned in 2021, we can expect God of War: Ragnarok this year.

Release date and PC port

In a yet-to-be-confirmed leak from the Playstation Network, it says that Ragnarok is set to release on September 30. The last title from 2018 was a Playstation exclusive to begin with, but has now been released for PC. This scheme is also expected for the new title. This means that the game will only be available for Playstation at initial release, but a PC version is still expected to be released afterwards.

The new look God of War takes Kratos out of Greek mythology and into the North World. The last game ended with some unanswered questions for the players:inside as the Fimbulwinter revealed the beginning of the Norse apocalypse. Also, the identity of Atreus as the God of Mischief was revealed.

The Story in God of War: Ragnarok

Kratos may have decided not to plan a campaign against the gods anymore, but after the events in the last part, he might change his mind. However, the trailer makes one thing clear: Kratos’ son, revealed to be Loki, wants to find out his true destiny. However, Atreus has the ability to trigger Ragnarok, which complicates the path in the search for his identity.

His father Kratos is thus faced with a difficult decision. Either he helps his child and ensures that everything goes down as a result, or he must turn against his own son. Nevertheless, they want to stop Ragnarok and for this they also accept a war with Asgard, the home of the northern gods.

Additionally, it was alluded to in the last part that Kratos would die in the new part. If this does indeed happen, it is quite possible that Atreus aka Loki will slowly but surely take over the main role.

Gameplay

Generally, God of War: Ragnarok is structured like its predecessor. So we can expect the typical battles and tasks. In addition, some familiar characters are to be seen again and Thor can also be spotted in the trailer.

This time, however, the title is supposed to contain 40 hours of game time, which exceeds that of the last game enormously. There will probably also be some changes between the playability of the characters again, however, as already mentioned, Atreus could be playable more often this time.

Creative Director Cory Barlog announced that Ragnarok will continue the Norse story, seamlessly following on from its predecessor. The long development between the two games was cited as the reason why a third Norse-themed game will not be added to the series. Whether this means that the series will end or Kratos will fight his way through a new pantheon in the future is still unclear.
