The Base Icon Upgrade SBC is a risk in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team. Due to the high costs, few of the legend cards are worthwhile. Some bangers are still possible though.

Only in a few cases does the Squad Building Challenge (SBC) for the Base Icon Upgrade live up to its name. This is because only around a third of all base icons have a higher value than the SBC itself. In total, however, there are more than 100 of these cards waiting as a reward for completing the task.

The SBC demands a value of a whopping 450,000 coins. Four matching teams must be turned in to receive a non-exchangeable icon. However, most are more likely to suffer a loss of value. 34 cards from just over 100 icons have a value of over 500,000 coins.

Those who own many non-exchangeable cards and can thus automatically pay the costs for the SBC are welcome to try their luck. Insofar as all icons have the same probability of appearing in the SBC reward, the chance of finding a meaningful card is around 33 percent. But additional purchases of matching cards are to be refrained from, because in most cases a loss has to be accepted. On the other hand, there are also 13 cards like Eusébio, Ronaldo and Zidane whose respective value exceeds the million mark.

The following icon cards would be worthwhile in terms of value:

  • Eusébio (5.0 million)
  • Pelé (4.3 million)
  • Johan Cruyff (3.0 million)
  • Zinedine Zidane (2.5 million)
  • Ronaldo (2.2 million)
  • Patrick Vieira (1.6 million)
  • Samuel Eto’o (1.5 million)
  • Eric Cantona (1.5 million)
  • Ferenc Puskás (1.4 million)
  • Ronaldinho (1.2 million)
  • Kenny Dalglish (1.0 million)
  • Lothar Matthäus (1.0 million)
  • Garrincha (1.0 million)
  • Emilio Butragueño (950,000)
  • Alessandro Del Piero (900,000)
  • George Best (900,000)
  • Laurent Blanc (750,000)
  • Wayne Rooney (600,000)
  • Robin van Persie (850,000)
  • Michael Essien (850,000)
  • Marcel Desailly (800,000)
  • Guud Gullit (850,000)
  • Kaka (800,000)
  • Rio Ferdinand (800,000)
  • Gianfranco Zola (750,000)
  • Carlos Alberto (675,000)
  • Fabio Cannavaro (550.000)
  • Cafu (550.000)
  • Clarence Seedorf (550,000)
  • Roberto Carlos (550.000)
  • Didier Drogba (550.000)
  • Thierry Henry (550.000)
  • Luís Figo (500.000)
  • Hristo Stoichkov (500.000)

An actually expensive card is not listed. This is because the icon versions of Diego Maradona are no longer available in FIFA 22 following a court ruling on licensing rights. Until Monday the Base Icon Upgrade SBC is available
