Forza Horizon 5 is stepping on the gas in the review and is outrunning the competition. Despite the positive tests, however, the racing game does not only receive praise.

Forza Horizon 5 speeds across the finish line like a sleek sports car and collects one excellent rating after the other. The Metacritic average of the pre-reviews is currently a whopping 91 points, everywhere it hails nine or even ten ratings, accompanied by hymns of praise.

These are the strengths and weaknesses of Forza Horizon 5

The strengths

Many reviewers agree that Forza Horizon 5

has an impressive open world.

For racing gameplay, it takes the best from its two predecessors and combines it.

offers enormous diversity.

The weaknesses

Amid all the praise, however, some mention negatively that

compared to its predecessor, there is much less innovation.

it plays too uniformly because the progression is not motivating.

it doesn’t get enough out of Mexico as a setting.

The international ratings at a glance

Metacritic already has over 70 opinions, including ratings from magazines, on the version for the next-gen consoles Xbox Series X and S, as well as just over 10 on the PC version. In our table, we have linked you to a selection of the tests including the straightforward numerical verdict on Forza Horizon 5:

Luke Reilly from IGN is almost completely enthusiastic about the open-world racer:

It Forza Horizon 5] is an extremely accessible racing spectacle buffet for everyone from Deluxe Edition sticklers to Game Pass nomads – whatever their driving skill or mechanical knowledge. […] It’s an MMO-inspired racing game, with more races, activities and events than should actually fit on the map. Yet it always feels relaxed and not overwhelming. It never forces you to do anything you don’t want to do and always rewards you for the path you choose to take. It looks beautiful, sounds great and plays incredibly well.

Game Informer’s Brian Shea also praises Forza Horizon 5 as an elegant and fun racing game that scores high on variety and accessibility:

“Around every bend, Forza Horizon 5 impresses in a way that few games have managed before. From the first kilometre, I was sliding forward in my seat. With so much to do in the impossibly beautiful Open World, it certainly doesn’t take long before I end up back in the driver’s seat of my favourite car. Even in a competitive racing environment, Forza Horizon 5 remains a tuned sports car. […] Forza Horizon 5 delivers a well-rounded, exciting and accessible experience over which it ranks among the elite of the racing genre.
