After EA Sports announced to possibly replace the brand name FIFA, the publisher now published further details about the licence situation. An agreement was reached with FIFPRO

After EA Sports announced that they could possibly do without the brand name FIFA for their football simulation in the future, the publisher now published a further update on the licence situation. This should make fans happy.

EA Sports has shaped the FIFA series with 29 games since the 90s until today. The development of the football simulation has seen graphic and technical transformations.

FIFPRO remains licensing partner

In a recent press release from EA Sports, it was announced that the licensing agreement with FIFPRO has been extended. The “Fédération Internationale des Associations de Footballeurs Professionnels” is a worldwide active representation of professional footballers with headquarters in Hoofddorp. It is made up of 65 national associations of footballers, which means that FIFPro represents a total of over 65,000 professionals.

This means that EA Sports will continue to be able to offer a football simulation with “ thousands of player names and graphics as content supported by the FIFPRO licensing agreement“.

So it is also clear: Despite possible rebrandings, there will still be real names and clubs in EA Sports’ future football simulation. These licences were and remain an important argument in the fight against the competition eFootball from KONAMI. However, with their current release, they have also shot themselves far offside.
