One of the craziest games at this year’s gamescom might be DokeV. Because it is a mix of open-world adventure and monster training. Those who think of Pokémon are not far off the mark. In fact, DokeV is reminiscent of the popular franchise in many respects, but it is much wilder and wackier.

The brand-new gamescom trailer gives you a foretaste of the adventures you can take on together with your animal companions:

All info at a glance

What is the game principle of DokeV?

DokeV has a somewhat unusual development history behind it. Originally, the monster game was announced as an MMO, which is not surprising. After all, the developers of Pearl Abyss are also known for Black Desert Online, among other things. But in the case of DokeV, the South Korean studio decided otherwise and redesigned the game as a single-player title.

Graphically, however, the title is still convincing, even if you have to be able to relate to the underlying style. Because the visuals, which are strongly geared towards children’s eyes, are certainly not for everyone. Nevertheless, the open world in particular is something to behold.

In DokeV, you have to collect creatures called “Dokebi”, similar to the Pokémon games. These cute creatures are manifested dreams of an unfulfilled wish and give people strength and confidence. Their design is strongly inspired by Korean mythology.

The game principle should therefore come as no surprise: You roam an open world with your animal companions and fight against other Dokebi. By the way, these are not always just cute little bears or cats, but sometimes really big bosses.

In the battles, however, there is a lot going on in terms of the richness of the effects. One big difference to Pokémon, by the way: the battles take place in real time!

What is DokeV about?

DokeV is set in a world in which artificial intelligence has advanced greatly and is used in the form of androids. These are manufactured by the dubious corporation “The Company”, which, however, captures Dokebi for this purpose and inserts it into their AI chips.

Your character finds out the truth about the company and wants to free the captured Dokebi. To do this, he has his own monsters at his side, each of which is supposed to have unique abilities.

By the way, there are also supposed to be cooperative multiplayer elements, for example to take down a strong boss together. It is not yet clear whether it will be possible to explore the world with other players. The developers are also cryptic about the topic of PvP. According to them, the idea of friendly competition is the guiding principle.

When and where will it appear?

When DokeV will be released is currently not known. In addition to the PC, the old console generation around PS4 and Xbox One as well as the current generation PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will be served.

We are particularly interested in your opinion on DokeV: Can you relate to the somewhat unconventional style? Would you be happy about a successful alternative to Pokémon for your home computer? Let us know in the comments
