Update 1.2 for New World will overhaul the endgame. There are also changes to crafting and many more changes. Here’s all the info.

So close to the holidays we all wish for good news. At least New World fulfils this wish and delivers an early Christmas present for all adventurers of Aeternum with Update 1.2. Above all, the end game is being reworked, which is probably the most urgent construction site at the moment. In the official forum, the developers have dedicated a separate blog (Dev-Blog) to the topic of the end game.

Those who feel more like celebrating can also rejoice. Because along with Update 1.2, you can take part in numerous events as part of the Winter Gathering and collect tokens to receive rare items for them. We have all the information on the changes and the inevitable server downtime for you.

When does the downtime start? On 16 December 2021 at 1pm, the servers will go down for Update 1.2. If everything goes according to plan, the downtime should last around 3 hours. As things stand at the moment, you will be able to return to the game at 4pm.

This brings update 1.2 for New World

High Watermark becomes competence

The much criticised High Watermark system in the endgame is passé in its previous form, with Update 1.2 this value will be renamed to Competence. So that you can see at a glance how high your character’s competence is, the respective competence level will be displayed next to each slot in the equipment screen. Above the average armour value, the average competence value is also displayed.

Each time your skill level increases, a banner will appear on the screen to indicate this.

The endgame has been a major point of criticism in New World since the November update, of all things, changed some things to the disadvantage of the players. A look back at what exactly caused the trouble.

Gypsum as a new raw material

Multiple types of gypsum come into play. Behind it is a new opportunity for you to get even better equipment and increase your competence. You can use this plaster to make a plaster sphere, which can then be made into plaster casts for weapons, armour and jewellery.

Where can I find plaster? For boss kills in the open world, expedition bosses, the Outpost Storm, in arenas, during Corruption Outbreaks and other occasions. Sooner or later, you’ll definitely accumulate quite a bit of plaster.

What types of gypsum are there? There are a total of eight different types of this new raw material:

  • Obsidian Gypsum: Obtained for defeating level 60+ named bosses in the open world.
  • Sapphire Plaster: Obtained for defeating the final bosses in the Lazarus Instrumentarium and Garden of Origin expeditions.
  • Ruby Gypsum: Found in the Outpost Storm.
  • Smaragd Gypsum: Can be found in Ability Reward Tanks.
  • Citrine Gypsum: Can be found in secret arena storage.
  • Amethyst Gypsum: Found in secret camps during a spoilage outbreak.
  • Topaz Gypsum: Obtain from enemies level 55+, but only after ingesting a certain attunement potion that you can only craft once per week.
  • Diamond Plaster: Only available during major events in New World, such as the new Winter Gathering.
A contemplative mood also takes hold in New World shortly before Christmas.

More highlights of Update 1.2

  • From now on there are better rewards in expeditions. In addition to plaster, defeating the final bosses will give you a guaranteed skill boost. You can also now find Timeless Shards, another new resource that can be used to guarantee certain stats when crafting weapons and armour.
  • The elite Insidiousness, Imperial Palace and Northern Dynasties Shrine have been made level 66 endgame content, with reward chests all providing competence boosts.
  • The level of end-game Corruption Outbreaks has been increased to 66.
  • Some of the changes from the November patch that made the endgame unnecessarily difficult have been toned down again.

The Winter Gathering is coming

A whole host of quests and special activities await you in Aeternum. During this time, expect increased snowfall in the game world and the odd Northern Lights in the sky. Outside the safe cities, a war rages between the Winter Walker and the Winter Warrior. The latter, together with his ice people, wants to cause chaos in the land and spread the Eternal Winter.

It should be worth your while to take part in these temporary events and quests. In return, you will receive Winter Tokens, which you can exchange in a festive shop for rare and cosmetic items, such as armour, weapons, furniture and consumables. In addition, the Winter Walker’s power increases with each coin delivered, averting the threat of disaster from the Winter Warrior.

Where can I enter the Winter Gathering? Four villages in the game world have been set up by the Winter Wanderer to provide festive cheer. Visit Immerfall, Königsfels, Webermoor or Lichtholz to begin the festive tasks.

How long does the Winter Gathering run? The event starts on 16 December 2021 and ends on 11 January 2022.
