Although Minecraft is one of the biggest and most creative sandboxes of all time, the choice of melee weapons is surprisingly limited. Without mods, you basically only have three fully-fledged melee weapons at your disposal, if we disregard tools such as pickaxes or shovels.
But soon there will be a fourth type of weapon in Minecraft, which is currently being discussed by the community. The new weapon is a mace, which in theory has a very powerful ability. In practice, however, it will not always be so easy to implement
What the mace can do
The mace is swung with one hand and can therefore also be combined with a shield, for example. On its own, the mace is already an extremely good weapon, inflicting seven points of damage with each blow and having an attack speed of 1.6. This makes the mace about as strong as a diamond sword
However, it has another special feature. The mace deals more damage when you fall from above onto an opponent. The lower you fall, the higher the damage This is unlimited, so you can theoretically finish off any opponent with one hit. The fall damage is also negated if you hit someone. How to get the mace
Like the sword and the axe, the mace can also be crafted and is therefore different from the last newly introduced melee weapon. That was the trident, which was added to the game six years ago and can still only be found as loot. You can make the new mace yourself, but the material for it is not so easy to find
You will need a Heavy Core and a Blast Rod to craft it. While you simply have to clear a gust for the gust rod, you have to unlock a safe in a test chamber for the heavy core. There is only a 2.2 percent chance of finding a Heavy Core inside
The mace will be integrated into the Java and Bedrock versions of Minecraft in a future updateProbably with update 1.21, which is expected in mid-2024 However, you can already try it out now. All you have to do is switch to the current development version 24w11a in the launcher, or 1.20.80.22 if you are playing Bedrock.
