A YouTuber gave his son eight of the latest handhelds to test out to find out which is currently the best

The Nintendo Switch 2 was released on June 5, 2025 and, unlike the first Switch in 2017, has found a rather competitive handheld market. A popular tech YouTuber has now done the big test comparison and left the decision to his son.

Can the Switch 2 stand up to PC handhelds?

This is what the video is about: Linus Tech Tips is one of the biggest and best-known tech YouTubers. For a new video, he came up with an exciting experiment and got his own son on board.

He apparently has a birthday coming up and has asked for a Nintendo Switch 2. However, the YouTuber dad wants to make sure that his son really knows in advance what he is choosing and, above all, what he is choosing against.

So he makes him an offer. He can test seven other current handhelds one after the other and then decide which one he really wants. These handhelds are available to choose from:

  • Steam Deck
  • ROG Ally
  • ROG Ally X
  • Lenovo Legion Go
  • AYANEO 3
  • MSI Claw 8 AI+
  • PlayStation Portal

You can watch the whole video and the final decision here:

This is how it ends: The son is quite impressed by the performance of the many PC handhelds. Apparently, despite being a famous tech dad, he’s mostly used to the regular Nintendo Switch.

After trying out all the consoles, he is left with three contenders: the Nintendo Switch 2, the ROG Ally X and the MSI Claw 8 AI+. And the decision still falls on the Switch 2.

Why he made this decision: The main reasons for this decision are that Nintendo has particularly cool exclusive games and he can continue to use his entire Switch catalog. In addition, many top titles from recent years have also been released for the Switch 2.

However, he also has a desktop PC on which he can play Steam games. If he didn’t have that, he would probably have opted for one of the PC handhelds. However, he has to swallow at the end when he finds out how much the new Nintendo games cost. Fortunately, his dad will want to play a few of them too. What do you think? What is currently the best handheld for you?
