Ubisoft has released Heroes of Might & Magic 3 HD on Steam to build anticipation for the remake. Unfortunately, however, they forgot to include the game download.

Oops…Ubisoft actually wanted to treat fans and, to celebrate the announcement of theremake for Heroes of Might & Magic 3release the original 1999 versionwith all DLCs on Steam. However, during the impromptu release for gamescom 2026, the publisher forgot to include the actual game.

Anyone who bought the version for around 10 euros on Steam,received only a 23.49 KBfilethat included an error message, not the classic strategy RPG.& nbsp;

Ubisoft simply forgot about the game

The fact that the game now works,is confirmed by user jakub on Steam. Despite his negative review, he remains committed tothis unique releasenevertheless:

About 10 to 11 hours after release, there was a 770 MB update that finally placed the game files in the directory! The game works now… But I’m still sticking with my negative review for this launch. Sorry, Heroes 3—it’s not your fault; you’re a great game…

Currently, 65 percent of the mere 28 reviews on the Steam page are negative, so the situation isn’t quite as dramatic as it initially sounds. Ubisoft quickly fixed the download error and granted buyers access to the game.

At gamescom 2026, a remake of Heroes of Might & Magic 3 was unexpectedly announced. You can find more on this and other gamescom news in the link box right below.

The HD version of Heroes 3 was originally released in 2015 and has been the only version of the game available on Steam ever since. Much to the frustration of fans, as the two DLCs, Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death, as well as the map generator, were missing. Both are included (at least after the hotfix) in the newly re-released version of the original. If you’d rather not go with the Steam version after all the commotion, you can also find the complete edition on GOG, where it’s currently even 50 percent off.
