The racing game is being developed by a new studio founded by former Three Fields developers and is intended to address the shortcomings of its predecessor.
Wreckreation 2 has now been officially announced. The announcement comes as a surprise, as the first game was released just three months ago on October 28, 2025. The new studio, When Tides Turn, is taking over development. It’s noteworthy that a new installment of the racing game was announced so soon, as the first game received a lot of criticism from players, and the developer studio, Three Fields Entertainment, was forced to close shortly afterward.
Former Developers Are Working on a Sequel
When Tides Turn consists entirely of former developers from Three Fields Entertainment. Three Fields Entertainment closed shortly after the game’s release. Publisher THQ Nordic had ended its support for the studio following the release of Wreckreation. The project is being led by Fiona Sperry, former head of Criterion and co-founder of Three Fields Entertainment. According to a report byRock Paper Shotgun , Wreckreation 2 has reportedly been in development for about three months. The game is set to be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. However, a release date has not yet been announced.
Wreckreation 2 is set to address the weaknesses of its predecessor
Even thetrailershows some improvements over its predecessor, particularly in world design. Apparently, When Tides Turn is moving away from the vast rural open world and focusing on more compact maps with significantly more urban areas in the new installment. As a result, the game is more reminiscent of Burnout Paradise than its predecessor. Players also criticized Wreckreation for its unpredictable driving physics, monotonous open world, and repetitive event structure. Overall, the game lacked variety, and that’s set to change with Wreckreation 2. Wreckreation achieved a Metascore of just 62 out of 100 on Metacritic, making it only average.
Despite the series’ rocky start and the studio’s closure, the developers intend to continue developing the series. It remains to be seen whether the changes will be enough to address the criticisms of the predecessor. While Wreckreation 2 is set to be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, a release date has not yet been announced.
