The RTX 60 series is still a long way off: according to a leaker, the new Nvidia GPUs are not expected to be released before early 2027.

The current generation of Nvidia graphics cards based on the RTX 5090 has almost completed its first year since its release. In the meantime, the GPU manufacturer has already given a preview of its successor, which is expected to be based on the Rubin architecture.

However, according to leaker and YouTuber RedGamingTech, it will likely be some time before such an RTX 6090 (at least if the naming scheme continues) is actually launched.

Will RTX 50 Super throw a spanner in the works?

Accordingly, the RTX 6000 generation – not to be confused with the current series of professional GPUs – is expected to be unveiled in 2027 at the earliest.

A possible date for this would be CES 2027 in January, which is exactly two years after the presentation of the current Blackwell generation. This would mean that a potential RTX 6090 would be released in the first quarter of 2027 at the earliest.

However, another rumor throws this speculation into disarray, as Nvidia has allegedly postponed the launch of the planned refresh, aka RTX 50 Super, to the third quarter of 2026, to be precise.

This would mean that there would only be six months between the Blackwell reissue and the release planned by RedGamingTech, which in turn would be an extremely tight time frame to make the new graphics cards appealing to us.

According to 3DCenter, in which Nvidia would still only allow the RTX 5070 (Ti) and RTX 5080 Super to remain at the top of the portfolio for a few months.

AMD plays the leading role in this scenario, as a new GPU generation is also expected in the second half of 2026, which will either be based on RDNA 5 architecture or debut the already confirmed UDNA concept.

  • It is conceivable that Nvidia is confident enough that the Radeon competition will not be able to match the Blackwell refresh with its new graphics cards and that it will continue to prevail against AMD GPUs in this segment.
  • As a result, there would be enough time for RTX 6000 to “further pump up” the Rubin chip and further set itself apart in the market.

With a rumored release date in the first quarter of 2027, Nvidia would still be close to tape-out in a normal development process. This refers to the handover of the final design draft for the underlying chips, so that minor corrections would still be possible at this stage.
