The universe of God of War is entering a new era. Not on the console, but on the screen: Amazon’s series adaptation of the action epic is moving forward – and a leaked casting call is now the talk of the town. Industry insider DanielRPK claims to have seen exclusive production documents containing cryptic code names such as “Alexander” and “Joshua.” production documents containing cryptic code names such as “Alexander” and “Joshua.”

According to the leak, the descriptions of these characters point to central characters in the franchise: “Alexander” appears to be a veiled reference to Odin, while “Joshua” probably represents Atreus – Kratos’ son, whose development is apparently to be told over several seasons. Noteworthy: According to the document, Atreus will initially be played by a younger actor before an older actor takes over. This decision is reminiscent of the narrative depth of the games, in which Atreus grows from a child into a warrior.

The choice of this structure suggests ambitious storytelling. Amazon clearly wants to capture the father-son dynamic that forms the heart of the game series on film – only with greater narrative freedom. According to internal plans, filming could start as early as spring 2026.

Odin appears earlier than expected” – hints at bold deviations from the original

One of the most exciting details: Odin, who only plays a central role in the game in God of War: Ragnarök, is set to appear in season 1, according to the leak.  This decision suggests that the series is breaking away from the video game template and setting its own priorities. Instead of a linear retelling, the show could be designed as an “alternative saga” that reinterprets familiar myths.

In terms of production, Amazon is likely to focus on high-quality staging. The series is being produced under the supervision of Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions – the same studios that inspired the successful The Last of Us series. Industry experts therefore expect a mix of epic CGI, handmade sets, and a distinctly dark tone.

There are also wild theories circulating about the cast: names such as Dave Bautista, Triple-H, and Christopher Judge, the original voice of Kratos, are being hotly debated among fans. Whether any of them will actually take on the iconic role remains to be seen. If filming begins as planned in 2026, an official cast reveal is likely before the end of the year.

One thing is certain, however: with this adaptation, Amazon is not only venturing into a major film project, but also reaching for the Olympus of the series world – between divine mythology and human tragedy.
