Following three successful Silent Hill games, Konami is considering further development phases for the series, but has not mentioned any specific titles or release dates.
Following the release of three games, Konami is considering further development phases for Silent Hill. Producer Motoi Okamoto explained in a Famitsu interview that the company is thinking about a second and third wave; he did not mention specific titles or details about the projects. PC Gamer and MP1st both report on these considerations.
The games released so far are considered the first wave
The series’ return is now clearly evident after a lengthy hiatus: According to PC Gamer, three new Konami titles have been released in recent years, namely Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill: Townfall. Okamoto classified these releases as the first wave. All three games were successful upon release and received widespread acclaim; Konami is satisfied with the response.
For Silent Hill f, the series shifted the action to Japan. The three releases to date already demonstrate that Konami is pursuing different approaches within the franchise. Now, further projects are on the horizon, though their scope and direction remain to be seen.
Specific games and release dates are still missing
According to Okamoto, Konami is currently reviewing several projects but did not want to share any details. A remake of the original Silent Hill from 1999, which Bloober Team is working on, has already been announced. The original report does not mention a release date.
It is also unconfirmed whether NeoBards Entertainment or Screen Burn Interactive will be involved in the series again. No information is available regarding platforms or release windows for the second and third waves. The statements therefore describe a long-term plan but do not yet constitute a concrete release schedule.
Konami Plans to Continue the Series
The positive reception of the three games released so far seems to be encouraging Konami to revive the series. According to PC Gamer, it was initially a challenge for Okamoto to convince the company’s leadership to greenlight new installments in the series. Following the cancellation of Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills in 2015, he also feared that a single release might once again raise doubts about the franchise’s future.
With the subsequent phases now mentioned, Konami is hinting at more than just a single remake, without yet specifying which games will result from this. The remake of the first game thus remains the next concrete milestone; further announcements regarding the planned projects are still pending.
