Whatever you expected from the studio behind the laid-back indie hit Dave the Diver, a no-holds-barred zombie survival game probably wasn’t it.

Indie developer Mintrocket laid down a real Steam hit with Dave the Diver this year. In the next project of the Korean studio everything will be different: Instead of relaxed gameplay, colorful pixel look and weird humor, there is zombie apocalypse and the fight for naked survival.

From restaurant owner to survival fighter

(Nakwon: Last Paradise) is the name of the new game from Mintrocket. But the zombie survival game is not a paradise. As a survivor of the apocalypse you try to make ends meet in Seoul.

In the style of extraction shooters like Escape from Tarkov you leave the safe zone in Seoul to search for resources in order to escape from the map with them again. There is already a first trailer for Nakwon: Last Paradise:

You’re on your own or in co-op, competing with up to other 16 players Another threat are of course the AI zombies, which are immortal by the way.

Yes, that’s right – immortal zombies In Nakwon: Last Paradise, firearms and ammunition are even more limited than in other genre representatives.

You can only incapacitate the zombies for a short time and are better off hiding and avoiding confrontations. However, if you see another player, you can eliminate him and then steal from him.

In a (longer post on Steam) Mintrocket explains that the zombies act like hunters during the day and even sleep at night. However, they still react to sounds even then.

Currently, the project is only in an “Initial Phase” and there are only a few developers working on it. However, a pre-alpha test is still planned in 2023. A release date is not yet known.

So, after the laid-back Dave the Diver, Mintrocket is doing quite an about-face and developing a badass zombie survival game next. The genre currently offers plenty of choice, do you think Mintrocket’s approach will catch on? Will the advance praise from Dave the Diver play a role? Post your thoughts in the comments.
