The remaster of the role-playing game has now brought the popular YouTuber out of retirement. The first two episodes are already a hit.
The internet is often a bleak place, full of malicious characters, tragic stories, dangerous viruses, pirated copies, in short: yuck!
But the internet can also be beautiful. Just like Shirley Curry’s YouTube channel Now at the ripe old age of 88, she has entertained us over the past few years as Skyrim Grandma
with over a hundred Let’s Play videos of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim
Actually, the lovely Shirley had already retired from YouTube. However, she is now returning for the remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, and her first two videos already show why so many fans love her.
Heavily throttled game speed
Those of you who have seen some of Ms. Curry’s earlier videos know that she plays at her own pace. Instead of rushing through the story at breakneck speed and missing lots of things, she takes in every branch, every leaf, and every stone with the meditative calm and wisdom of age.
At least until she is suddenly attacked by a wizard and a goblin he has conjured up. Then the sprightly granny pulls out her axe and makes short work of the creatures. Her sober analysis of the incident: Hmm, I killed them both with one blow.
She still has mixed feelings about Oblivion itself. Her two videos released so far are titled I’m learning

, which describes the situation well. Shirley is struggling with the peculiarities of her playful but very different Skyrim ancestor.
She often finds the movement and camera work particularly challenging. Or as she puts it herself: Awful movement… just awful movement.

Many fans are also excited that Shirley Curry is able to start another The Elder Scrolls game after Skyrim. Because the truth is, it will probably be at least three or four years before part 6 is released. There’s no guarantee that dear Skyrim Granny will still be with us by then. So users are all the happier that it’s continuing!
