The Legacy Edition of the popular co-op RPG is now available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Switch fans will have to wait a little longer.
Aspyr has unveiled a Legacy Edition of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North—the remaster is available now.
You can get the remaster now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG); for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, it will be available in the European eShop starting August 18. The price is 19.99 euros, but until August 24, you’ll pay just 17.99 euros.
With this release, Aspyr is bringing back the action RPG from Snowblind Studios, originally released in 2011, which is now set to shine in new splendor.
Modernized Co-op Mode and Technical Improvements
Here, too, you can play in online co-op with up to three players or in local split-screen mode with two players. At the same time, according to Aspyr, there are plenty of quality-of-life improvements. You can now switch characters mid-game and target enemies more accurately thanks to the revamped targeting system. The improved UI/UX now provides your party members with clear health, mana, and EXP bars. Added to this are a new autosave feature, gyro controls on PS5, Switch, and Switch 2, 60-fps gameplay, and plenty of bug fixes.
However, it’s also noted that local co-op mode and 60 fps are not available on the original Nintendo Switch.
Story and Setting in the North of Middle-earth
“The game expands Tolkien’s legendary epic with the never-before-told story of Agandaûr,” the description states. “This Black Númenórean and loyal servant of Sauron has gathered a gigantic army in the ruins of Fornost.
