Daedalic Entertainment and Gamexcite are expanding Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown with new challenges. The free update, Q Trials, brings a roguelite mode to PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Anyone embarking on the arduous journey home must now face the capricious trials of the almighty Q.
The mode focuses on high replayability through procedural events and random sector objectives. After each section, Q grants a choice of three rewards for permanent progress. Special modifiers alter the rules of the game: Higher morale slows down ship upgrades, while expanded quarters increase the risk of illness. The crew can be freely customized, so even Harry Kim can rise to the rank of captain.
Follow-up Review: Across the Unknown is now more like the game I’d hoped for
The paid Equinox DLC adds even greater challenges, unlocking the research vessel of the same name as an alternative to the U.S.S. Voyager. The smaller ship offers less space, weaker warp drive, and requires extreme resource management. Three new characters—Rudolph Ransom, Maxwell Burke, and Noah Lessing—join the crew.
In the exclusive “Spirits of Good Fortune” quest series, players encounter the Ankari. To shorten the journey home, Starfleet principles can be thrown overboard.
