When summer gets hot – and prices fall

On June 26 at 7 p.m. sharp, the big savings start again on Steam – for two weeks, the prices on thousands of games will plummet – but if you really want to benefit, you need more than just luck. Because there is a sophisticated system behind the sale.

Those who are online around ten minutes before the start bypass the server jam and secure the first exclusive event tickets. At the same time, a personal countdown runs on the store page, which automatically highlights the hottest offers. The wish list becomes the best tool: tags such as “co-op” or “deck-verified” make it easy to browse specifically. And if you have activated the email notification, you will be notified of all price drops in real time.

But beware: not every percentage in the Steam Summer Sale 2025 is a good deal. A look at sites such as SteamDB reveals whether it’s a real low price or whether it’s better to wait for the fall. A green bar in the price history means best value, orange indicates previous bargains.

You should also check DLC bundles carefully. Often all it takes is one missing piece of additional content to drastically reduce the overall bundle price – ideal for RPGs with a large expansion structure. And if the purchase does disappoint: Two hours of playtime or 14 days of goodwill are enough to return the title without any problems.

Steam Summer Sale 2025 – how to make maps, points & quests worthwhile

What many underestimate: The real added value lies not only in the discount, but also in the surrounding benefits. Because anyone who buys for at least €10 automatically receives a trading card. With ten of these, you can craft an event badge – including XP, emoticon and profile background. If you also create a game badge, you get an extra card as a gift.

And it gets even better: Clicking through the Discovery Queue every day also earns you free cards – a short click route that pays off in the long term. Clever users sell their surplus cards directly at the start of the sale, when prices are at their highest. They can then buy any missing pieces later.

The points store is also active again: for every euro spent, 100 points are awarded, which can be used to unlock animated backgrounds and profile frames – permanently and without an expiration date. And anyone who completes publisher quests, for example playing a Capcom demo, will also receive special badges and bonus XP, making the Summer Sale an all-round event for bargain hunters with a system.
