During the Xbox Games Showcase, developer Compulsion Games unveiled South of Midnight. The action adventure explores the folklore of the American South and presents us with monsters and magic rising from the swamps.
Eerie swamplands and the blues, some of the many things we associate with the American South. Compulsion Games takes these aspects and weaves them together with the folklore that resides there to create the action adventure South of Midnight.
The plot revolves around Hazel, whose home village is hit by a stroke of fate. Therefore, Hazel herself is to be trained as a weaver This is a kind of magical healer who takes care of broken bonds and broken spirits. Equipped with her new skills, she must confront dangerous monsters while also dealing with her own tangled family history
At the beginning of the trailer we get to know Shakin’ Bones He is one of the immortal entities Hazel will meet on her journey. His sphere of influence is directly interwoven with death, as he accompanies souls into the afterlife.
His “dialogue” with Hazel already sets the tone for the atmosphere of South of Midnight: gloomy landscapes, an exciting soundtrack, cool sayings and, last but not least, a fair amount of action. You can find out more in the (Interview with the developers).
South of Midnight is scheduled for release on PC and Xbox Series X/S at an unspecified date. From day one, the game will also be part of Xbox Game Pass. On the (official website) they also announce to release gameplay footage of the game soon.
