Buckshot Roulette comes from a solo developer who demonstrates the development process of the successful Steam game in a single clip.

Russian roulette is usually played with a revolver, but solo developer Mike Klubnika goes one better with Buckshot Roulette. This game of chance played with a shotgun is a real Steam hit – and Klubnika shows how it was created in a time-lapse video from start to finish.

1 year of work in 100 seconds

In one minute and 40 seconds, Klubnika shows the development process of Buckshot Roulette from the first items to the complete level in the form of preview images from Blender.

What is Blender? Blender is a free 3D graphics program that can be used to create, texture, animate and render models. It is frequently used by solo projects or small studios in the fields of video game development and film production.

Klubnika shows in the short clip the work of a whole year in a total of 2,330 images Despite the speed, it is easy to see how the level from the game gradually comes together from the various individual parts.

What kind of game is Buckshot Roulette?

The idea is pretty simple: you play against the AI or three other players in a game of Russian roulette – but with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Since there is no cylinder like in a revolver, you now have to decide whether the next shell in the shotgun is empty or contains the deadly shotgun load.

You’ll also receive random itemssuch as handcuffs that you can use to force a player to sit out one of three rounds. A cell phone gives you a call that lets you know the load of one of the shells.

An indie hit

On Steam the game 96 percent positive ratings and that’s with over 78,000 user reviews. According to SteamDB, Buckshot Roulette set a record 4 months ago with over 20,000 players active at the same time. In the context of a solo project, these are quite impressive numbers.

The players like the simple gameplay, the short duration of 15 to 20 minutes per game and the fun of trying to trick friends. The price of 3 euros is also an unbeatable argument for many.
