Amazon is currently filming a Tomb Raider series with Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. However, production has come to a standstill for the time being following an injury to the lead actress.

Sophie Turner swapsthe political intrigue of Game of Thronesfor two handguns to step in front of the camera in the role of Lara Croft: For Amazon’s Tomb Raider TV series, the 30-year-old actress is following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

Sophie Turner injures herself while filming Tomb Raider

Shooting has been underway since January 15, 2026, but the production has now been forced to take a break. As reported by Entertainment Weekly and Deadline, Turner suffered an injury during filming and has to recover first. It is not expected to resume until two weeks at the earliest.

What exactly happened to Turner is not clear from the official statement from Amazon MGM Studios, but it is said to be amild injury while they want to give Turner enough time to get back on his feet. In the meantime, however, the crew will continue to be paid.

Comparable absences are often very expensive for production studios because they often torpedo an overarching shooting schedule. Director Chad Stahelski (John Wick) can probably tell you a thing or two about this after Henry Cavill was injured a few months ago while training for the Highlander reboot. As a result, the start of filming was delayed by several weeks.

It remains to be seen whether Sophie Turner’s injury will now affect the production schedule and therefore the release date of the Tomb Raider series. At the moment, fans (and those responsible at Amazon MGM) can only hope and be patient.

What else you should know about Amazon’s Tomb Raider

It is currently not known when Tomb Raider will end up in the streaming subscription on Prime Video.Previously, it was assumed that it would be released towards the end of 2026 to the beginning of 2027 at the earliest. After Fallout and God of War, this is the next video game adaptation that Amazon apparently sees a lot of potential in.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) is primarily responsible for Tomb Raider as series creator, co-showrunner, writer and producer. She is assisted by Chad Hodge (Wayward Pines) as co-showrunner and producer, as well as Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shogun) as director and producer.

What the plot of the Tomb Raider series will revolve around is currently unknown. In the meantime, however, the cast already includes stars such as Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter) as Lara’s uncle Atlas De Mornay, Sigourney Weaver (Alien) as the mysterious Evelyn Wallis and Sasha Luss (Valerian) as the antagonist named Sasha.

Martin Bobb-Semple (Wonka) as Zip and Bill Paterson (House of the Dragon) as Lara’s butler Winston are also part of the cast.

So the grand finale of The Boys won’t be long in coming, while season 3 of Fallout is also on the horizon. And then there’s the God of War series, which has recently attracted a lot of criticism for the look of the live-action Kratos.
