Mike Booth has made many fans happy with his zombie games and wants to repeat that success with his new project.

No other game has yet been able to repeat what Left 4 Dead achieved in terms of co-op shooters in a zombie setting at the end of the 2000s. In 2021, Back 4 Blood tried, but failed at release due to its limited scope, lack of motivation to progress, and virtually non-existent PvP. Although a few patches and DLCs made some decent improvements, it wasn’t enough to succeed Left 4 Dead.

Maybe Mike Booth will manage it with his new game. After all, he is the creator of the Left 4 Dead series.

L4D creator announces new game

In the subreddit of the popular zombie shooter, Mike Booth announces that he is working on a new project. It will be a four-player co-op shooter that will build on “what made L4D special.”

Development is still in its early stages, but Booth hints at what players can expect:

If you enjoyed the teamwork, tension, and replayability of my previous games, you’ll probably enjoy this one. It expands on the co-op concept in a way I’ve wanted to try for a long time.“

However, Booth does not reveal exactly what he means by ”expanding on the co-op concept.” If you want to find out as soon as possible, you can already sign up for a possible register for playtests for the game, which has the working title “Project Tacoma.”

The new game is being developed by Bad Robot Games, the video game division of Star Wars director J.J. Abrams’ production studio. Booth has been the studio’s Chief Creative Officer since 2022.

Ironically, Booth founded Turtle Rock Studios, the developer of Back 4 Blood, in 2002. However, he had nothing to do with the game. After leaving Valve in 2012, he worked for Blizzard Entertainment and Facebook, among others.

It will probably be some time before fans learn more about the new co-op game. A slight damper on the burgeoning anticipation is the fact that “zombies” have not been mentioned at all, at least so far.
