Liam Hemsworth draws the Silver Blade in season 4 of The Witcher. Now Henry Cavill’s Geralt talks about his new role as Geralt of Rivia for the first time.

There was great excitement when it was announced that Henry Cavill was leaving The Witcher. Fans have taken the 41-year-old actor and self-confessed nerd firmly into their hearts and strongly condemned Netflix’s decision.

The starting point for Liam Hemsworth is correspondingly ungrateful: The new Geralt of the Witcher series, who officially follows in Cavill’s footsteps. Now – almost two years later, after Hemsworth’s casting was announced – the future witcher talks about The Witcher and his role for the first time.

Liam Hemsworth also comes out as a Witcher fan

In the interview with Kelly and Marc, Hemsworth comes out as a big fan of the video games – even if he can’t quite keep up with Cavill’s passion for the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski:

I hadn’t seen the TV show. And I hadn’t read the books. But I had played the video game about ten years ago or something like that. And it’s still one of the best video games ever today. And Netflix approached me almost two years ago and said they wanted me to just jump in and take over.

I was really excited about the role because I was a fan of the video game. But I was told that I should first watch the TV series and take a look at the books so that I could really get into the material.

Liam Hemsworth does not remain Geralt for long

Netflix has already revealed a first look at Liam Hemsworth in the role of Geralt. Fans will be able to get a final impression of the new witcher as soon as season 4 hits the streaming service. A specific release date is not known, but it may be around the middle to end of 2025.
Work is also already underway on season 5 of The Witcher, which will be the finale of the Netflix series. So Liam Hemsworth won’t be able to swing the silver blade for too long; in fact, Geralt is supposed to play a smaller role in the upcoming season, leaving the spotlight to Ciri (Freya Allan).

By the way: After being postponed, the new Witcher animated film Sirens of the Deep is now scheduled to premiere on Netflix on February 11, 2025. Henry Cavill will not be returning for it either; instead, Doug Cockle will be providing the voice of Geralt from the video games.

Speaking of video games: CD Projekt Red is working on a new Witcher game after Cyberpunk 2077. However, that might take a few more years.
