Highlight in the Steam sale: Silent Hill 2 (2024)
(Genre: Survival horror – Release: October 08, 2025 – Price: 42 euros (40 percent discount)
In 2002, Silent Hill 2 made video game history with its unique story and an atmosphere as dense as a lump of osmium. However, anyone who wanted to catch up on or relive the survival horror before last year still had to fall back on the slightly enhanced HD Collection from 2012. Nowadays, however, this would not be a significant technical upgrade to the original.
Luckily, in October 2024 Bloober Team gave us a complete overhaul of the cult horror. The remake tells the same hair-raising story, with the same battered souls and the same abstruse monsters who want to get at our James.
The beauty of the horror trip to Silent Hill: Instead of a trained combat athlete, as is the case in Resident Evil, for example, we are given a grieving widower who knows as little about weapons as we do about agriculture.
This is what it’s all about: First equipped with a club, then eventually with a pistol and shotgun, you penetrate further and further into the eerie and mysterious town of Silent Hill. You gradually uncover James’ own demons over the course of the game. At the beginning, all you know is that his deceased wife Maria has sent a letter to Silent Hill for James.
On your trip through the city, you will encounter other stranded people and a bunch of disfigured creatures, most notably Pyramid Head, a huge guy with an even bigger headdress. With him breathing down your neck, you solve puzzles, wander through labyrinthine buildings and make your way to the end of the story while saving resources.
If you haven’t had enough of this picturesque place after one playthrough, you can uncover even more secrets in the New Game+. In addition to its three main endings, Silent Hill 2 has a few more bizarre exits in store.
