The Master Crafted Edition of Space Marine 1 was anything but masterful, which is why players are now allowed to return it.

After the huge success of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 publisher Sega wanted to capitalize on the hype surrounding the brand with a remaster of the first part of the game. However, the release was quite a disaster, which now has consequences. Players can return the game on Steam and loyal fans will receive the discount they deserve.

Return of Space Marine 1

In a post on Steam Sega announced that the platform’s conventional refund rules will be extended and players who already own the original will receive a discount. Specifically, this means:

  • Players have until July 10, 2025, at 7pm time, to return the game regardless of their playtime and get their money back.
  • Players who own the Anniversary Edition of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine on Steam will receive a 50 percent discount on the purchase of the Master Crafted Edition.

Important: If you have the Anniversary Edition, you must first return the Master Crafted Edition and then buy it again with the 50 percent discount. The remaster regularly costs 40 euros.

The post also states:  “We know this situation has been frustrating for some of you, and we apologize for the confusion it has caused. We hope this approach provides a workable solution as we continue to improve the game itself.”

Some patches will be released in the coming weeks. These include, for example, improvements to the HUD, fixing various graphics bugs and a soft lock in one of the levels.

In addition, the game should run better on the Steam Deck. You can find a roadmap in the aforementioned Steam post, but it is currently not known when the patches will be released.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine in the Master Crafted Edition can also be found in Microsoft’s Games Pass subscription. A version for PS5 does not yet exist and there are currently no known plans for a release. You can still buy and play the Anniversary Edition via Steam and GOG.
