New images show what Nvidia’s RTX 3090 Super would have looked like. It never made it to market, and it would have been really pretty.
What is the name of Nvidia’s flagship of the last generation? Of course, RTX 3090 Ti. But it almost turned out differently. For a long time, another card was discussed instead, which should have been released under the title RTX 3090 Super.
A whole generation later (in the meantime, the flagship is finally called RTX 4090), a picture wanders through the web that is supposed to show the card that never appeared. And at least from a visual point of view, it’s a shame that the card was never released.

What happened: The image comes from the well-known leaker (KittyYYuko). The shared an image of the never-released card in a post on X (formerly Twitter). This is said to be from a Chinese second-hand marketplace.

The big picture: This isn’t the first image we’ve seen of the RTX 3090 Super. As (Videocardz) notes, there have already been pictures of the officially never announced card to be seen in the past.
What’s new about the leak, however, is that we don’t just get to see details, but the entire map in long shot. This, of course, allows for a much better look at the hardware that never was.
Compared to other Founder’s Editions from Nvidia, the card primarily stands out due to its color. Because the RTX 3090 Super presents itself in a noble, matte black.
What did we miss? The question remains, where exactly the RTX 3090 Super would have settled. Here we can only speculate, because there are of course no reliable tests and benchmarks of the card.
Factually, the card should not have differed too much from the RTX 3090 Ti released in early 2022. In fact, in all likelihood, there would have been no differences at all when it comes to the GPU. Who knows, maybe the special paint job would have even been all that distinguished Ti and Super from each other.
Is an RTX 4090 Super also coming? We never know for sure, but it doesn’t look like it at the moment. On the other hand, an RTX 4090 Ti has been talked about for a while, but according to insiders, it has been discontinued by Nvidia in the meantime.
But since an RTX 5090 is not expected until 2025, the question remains open whether and how Nvidia wants to fill the coming year. Possibly, a more powerful model in the form of an RTX 4090 Ti or Super could thus become relevant again in the next twelve months.
