With the Kosatka, the new Cayo Perico update delivers a submarine for GTA Online. We provide you with all the info on costs, upgrades and what else you should know.

Cayo Perico brings a submarine for GTA Online. We answer the most important questions.

With the Cayo Perico Heist not only a whole range of new vehicles is coming to GTA Online, but also the “Kosatka” – a submarine, which is indispensable to play the new heist. In the following article we will tell you about all the functions of the submarine, what upgrades are available and which of them you should invest your money in.

The submarine in GTA Online: Cayo Perico
How much does the submarine cost?
The Kosatka submarine costs 2.2 million GTA dollars in its basic configuration and is available via the in-game website Warstock Cache and Carry. With optional upgrades, there are of course additional costs, but more on that below.

You can only buy the submarine as soon as you have met Miguel Madrazo for the first time in GTA Online’s new nightclub at The Music Locker (in the basement of the Diamond Casino Resort): The Madrazo’s son will first set you on raiding the island Cayo Perico of the drug lord El Rubio, for which you will need the Kosatka.

Without the Kosatka you can’t play the Cayo Perico Heist. The submarine is essential if you want to access GTA Online’s new heist.

What can the submarine do?
In terms of its functions, the Kosatka is similar to the Mobile Command Centre, the Terrorbyte or the Avenger. This means that you can enter the submarine to start missions from there. The missions you embark on the Kosatka revolve almost exclusively around the Cayo Perico Heist.

Even the helmsman: In contrast to the sinfully expensive yachts, the submarine is not only anchored on the coast of Los Santos, you can even steer the Kosatka yourself and manoeuvre it through the waters. As with the yachts, you can also change the position of the Kosatka by paying 10,000 GTA dollars and selecting one of 12 possible locations.

Moon Pool as a submarine garage: In the so-called Moon Pool of the Kosatka you can store various vehicles. For example, the Sparrow, the Kraken Avisa, but also the Pegassi Toreador or Stromberg.

The Kosatka is not invulnerable: The submarine can run aground if you venture into waters that are too shallow. In addition, the Kosatka is an easy target for other players if you don’t dive and thus disappear from the radar: Not only enemy submarines can target you, but also jets, Oppressor Mk II’s, Deluxos or just a guy with a rocket launcher – the Kosatka can take up to ten hits.

What to do in case of shipwreck? If your Kosatka does get shot to pieces or runs aground, it’s not the end of the world: just like any other vehicle, you can have the submarine replaced at the touch of a button.

Captain Pavel is your man when it comes to the Kosatka and the Cayo Perico Heist.

Is the submarine worth it?
Yes, according to our playing experience, the Kosatka is well worth buying. After all, the submarine is indispensable for playing the new Cayo Perico Heist. With an acquisition cost of only 2.2 million, the submarine is even relatively cheap compared to other command centres such as the Terrobyte (up to 3.5 million), the Avenger (up to 4.8 million) or the MKZ (up to 2.8 million).

In addition, the Cayo Perico Heist is the most lucrative heist in GTA Online so far: If you concentrate only on the primary objective of the mission, you will earn “only” 1.1 million in ingame cash. If you are particularly thorough, have teammates with you and complete the optional directives, your winnings can add up to 3.8 to 4.5 million GTA dollars – so the Cayo Perico Heist pays out more money than the diamond heist in the casino.

The most important submarine upgrades
With 2.2 million dollars you have paid for the submarine in its standard version. However, there is a whole range of optional upgrades that can increase your expenditure. We give you an overview of the features and regular costs:

Change flag: free
Change colour: 75,000 GTA dollars
Sonar station: 1,200,000 GTA dollars
Guided missile: 1,900,000 GTA dollars
Weapons workshop: 350,000 GTA dollars
Moon Pool vehicles: total of 3,360,000 GTA dollars

There are currently two Moon Pool vehicles available for the Kosatka in GTA Online.

Which upgrades are worth it?
If you buy all the upgrades for the Kosatka, your costs will add up to over nine million GTA dollars. Definitely not a bargain, so we’ll tell you what each upgrade does and whether we recommend buying it:

Sonar station – only conditionally necessary
With the sonar station, you can find up to ten treasures in the waters of GTA Online every day, which bring you a total of up to 75,000 GTA dollars and additional experience points. The submersible Kraken Avisa is also recommended for treasure hunting, which devours another 1.54 million GTA dollars.

You can also use the sonar station to find the position of the ten antennas scattered around Los Santos in order to repair the radio Still Slipping Los Santos. Here, however, our guide will simply help you if you want to go in search of the antennas:

Two Moon Pool vehicles are currently available for the Kosatka in GTA Online.

Which upgrades are worthwhile?

If you buy all the upgrades for the Kosatka, your costs will add up to over nine million GTA dollars. Definitely not a bargain, which is why we’ll tell you what which upgrade does in the first place, and

Guided missiles – not necessary
The guided missiles of the Kosatka are a dream for grifters: The missiles have an enormous range and can also be steered to the mainland – for example, to the city centre if you are anchored off the coast of Los Santos. The cooldown time of one minute is also bearable, as you have an infinite number of missiles at your disposal.

Of course, we don’t advise anyone to get on other players’ nerves with the guided missiles. Apart from griefing, the missiles are also a valuable tool if you have to defend yourself against attackers. In its basic configuration, the Kosatka also has torpedoes as armament, which you can use in the fight against other submarines.

So you don’t really need the guided missiles, but they can still be of practical use. For example, in the weapons procurement mission for the Cayo Perico Heist: If you are sent after the Valkyrie of the Merryweather headquarters, you simply take the bird out of the sky with a well-aimed shot, which means the mission is considered failed and you can restart it. And then you’ll (hopefully) be assigned a less tedious mission to acquire weapons.

Weapons Workshop – Not Necessary
The Weapon Workshop allows you to modify a certain selection of weapons into MK-II versions and make them much more powerful with certain upgrades. However, if you already have a Weapon Workshop in, for example, a Terrorbyte or Arcade Hall, you can of course save the money for it.

Moon Pool vehicles – we recommend the Sparrow!
The Moon Pool vehicles cost a total of 3,360,000 GTA dollars, but they are also available separately: you have to pay 1,815,000 in ingame cash for the Sparrow helicopter and 1,545,000 for the Kraken Avisa submersible. While we’ve already told you about the Avisa’s usefulness, we think the Sparrow is pretty useful for using the Kosatka.

Because no matter where you have parked your submarine, you almost always have to get to shore first – and this is usually done by dingy, which is part of the Kosatka’s basic equipment, or by swimming ashore. Alternatively, you can park the Kosatka in front of a beach or harbour and save yourself as much distance as possible. Just be careful not to run aground!

The Sparrow is particularly practical due to its flying ability and is therefore recommended. Especially during the numerous preparation missions for the Cayo Perico Heist you have to start from the Kosatka and return to it all the time. The Sparrow’s high speed pays off here, as it can only take a small amount of damage.

Alternatively, you can park a Stromberg or Toreador in the Moon Pool – if you have one: amphibious vehicles that cost between 3.2 million and 3.6 million dollars.

If you want to make money with treasure hunting, get the Kraken Avisa. But we highly recommend the Sparrow helicopter.
