Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days mixes The Walking Dead with This War of Mine, earning rave reviews and a huge player base.

Zombie games are a dime a dozen, but every now and then one or the other title manages to stand out from the crowd. This is also true of the mix of strategy and survival horror Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days. Even at its early release stage, it has already enjoyed real success on Steam – and you can even try it out for free.

This War of Mine with Zombies

Zombies mostly just shuffle along and occasionally don’t pose a major challenge for experienced survivors. But even in small numbers, the hierarchy turns and you should quickly run for it. With some hordes, not even the wall around your home can protect you.

What is this game? You manage a group of survivors and build a secure base. To do that, however, you need food, materials, people and weapons. You get these on looting tours, in which you roam the ruins of Texas with one of your characters in 2.5-D optics. Many of you will feel reminded of the anti-war game This War of Mine.

But outside, you will meet the walking dead. While you can still fight single zombies, you should think twice about doing so when there are two brain slurpers. Because if you’re not paying attention for even a moment, you’ll be surrounded and your looter will meet his maker. This cannot be revived and will ultimately be lost forever.

Already a success on Steam: Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days entered Early Access yesterday and has already reached over 6,700 players simultaneously on Steam.

Reviews are positive in 75 percent of cases, While the atmosphere and gameplay is praised, some users criticize the repetitiveness, the sometimes frustrating level of difficulty, as well as the lack of story.

If you want to take a look at Our Darkest Days for yourself, you can do so with the free demo . If you like it, early access for 25 euros might be an option. Otherwise, you can add it to your wishlist and wait for the full release or a sale.

Our Darkest Days is the third installment of the Into the Dead series from PikPok. The first two offshoots, however, were Auto-Runner for smartphones and the Nintendo Switch and have little to do with the current installment except for the setting. You can still download Into the Dead 2 for free for your phone. Switch players, on the other hand, have to pay 35 euros for slightly more content.
