Just as exciting as the two role-playing games is how good or bad Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be

The past few weeks have been dominated by the big survival game heavyweights Palworld and Enshrouded, but now role-playing game fans are finally getting their money’s worth This week’s new releases on Steam include two candidates with hit potential – and a superhero game with many unanswered questions

The highlights of the week

Granblue Fantasy: Relink

(Genre: Action-RPG – Developer: Cygames – Release: February 1 (Steam)

In Granblue Fantasy: Relink explore a fantasy world full of floating islands as an airship captain. The destination of the journey? Estalucia, a legendary island at the edge of the sky

In addition to an exciting story full of twists and intrigue, developer Cygames offers you an action-packed combat system: Over the course of your adventure, you will collect numerous companions, each with individual weapons, abilities and fighting styles.

Up to three Sky Riders fight fully automatically at your side, and team play is key in the battles, for example with combination or chain attacks. You can also complete the adventure in co-op with up to three friends.

Persona 3 Reload

(Genre: JRPG – Developer: Atlus – Release: February 2 (Steam)

Persona 3 Reload, the remake of a true PlayStation 2 classic, is finally coming to the PC. As in the original, you take on the role of a high school student who has to assert himself in a mixture of role-playing game and life simulation – working, studying and spending time with friends during the day, fighting turn-based battles at night.

The remake is visually and mechanically much improved, with many elements taken from the latest series spin-off Persona 5 Royale. The game will also appear directly in the Game Pass on release

More releases of the week

Monday, January 29

  • Outcast Tales: First Journey: The free prologue to the roguelite role-playing game Outcast Tales, in which you have to fight your way through a wasteland full of robots, mutants and bandits in turn-based RPG battles.

Tuesday, January 30

Wednesday, January 31

  • Eastward – Octopia: The DLC transforms the action adventure Eastward into a farming simulation à la Stardew Valley. Our Sören should be particularly happy about the release – read his column to find out why he thinks Eastward is outstanding.

Thursday, February 1

  • Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash: In the acclaimed anime Jujutsu Kaisen, exorcists fight against cursed spirits. The video game conversion turns it into a 3D fighting game in which two characters fight each other simultaneously.

Friday, February 2

  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League: The biggest grab bag of the week awaits you on Friday. The new game from the Batman Arkham developers looks great and has bombastically staged cutscenes – but is it any fun? Initial previews were sobering, and the publisher has apparently refused to send test versions to the press, which is usually a bad omen. Batman: Arkham Knight, the last PC game from Rocksteady, had to be downgraded by 15 points on release due to bugs.
