Patch 1.03 for Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon fixes numerous bugs and improves gameplay – but the next major update, patch 1.1, is already coming in August.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalonhas received its biggest update yet with patch 1.03. The small development team at Questline has responded to many of your requests and concerns. But that’s just the beginning – a really big content update is coming in August.

Patch 1.03 brings a huge package of improvements

Since June 6, 2025, Patch 1.03 has been live, bringing tons of fixes and optimizations to the dark mini-Skyrim.

Many technical issues have been addressed:Annoying crashes when resetting merchant inventories are now a thing of the past, as are memory leaks in UI elements, which sometimes caused jerky gameplay. A particularly annoying save game bug that occurred when Steam was not detected correctly has also been fixed.

There have also been some gameplay changes: After completing the main story, you can now finally continue exploring the world without being abruptly thrown back to the main menu. In addition, important NPCs have been given protective mechanisms to prevent you or enemies from accidentally sending them to the afterlife.

Some quests that were previously plagued by blockers and could not be completed now run smoothly. The complete list of all changes can be found on the second page of this article.

A look to the future: Patch 1.1 and more

Things are going to get really exciting in the coming weeks. Questline has published a roadmap showing where the journey is headed:

  • Weekly patches will continue to fix bugs and improve performance.
  • Mod support will be introduced in three to four weeks.
  • A special Steam Deck version is also in the works so you can enjoy the adventure on the go.

But the real highlight awaits you in August: Patch 1.1 brings new content for the Forlorn Swords region (Act 3) and significantly expands the world of Avalon once again. The developers aren’t revealing exactly how the area will be expanded in order to keep the surprise, but they promise that it will be really cool new features

Tainted Grail 1.03 – Patch Notes

Critical bug fixes:

  • A cause of crashes has been fixed. We are currently working on another bug fix, but it still needs to be tested extensively before it can be released to you.
  • (Missing save files on PC)The most common cause of missing save files on PC was that the game couldn’t find Steam and loaded GoG or fallback save files instead. Last week, we added a pop-up that informs you when Steam cannot be found. This week, we added a pop-up asking if you want to automatically move the save files found in other folders to your Steam folder. We recommend that everyone perform the migration via the pop-up window.
  • Items with special effects have been optimized. This should improve performance for players who are already further into the game or have collected many unique items.
  • Some memory leaks in our user interface have been fixed.
  • A quest in the fields of Cuanacht no longer permanently prevents players from saving (Monstrous Marriage).
  • Lockpicking now uses the main camera. The significant reduction in memory usage is especially important on consoles.

Most requested:

  • After finishing the game, you can now choose whether you want to continue playing and explore the world further or quit the game.
  • Some important NPCs in the Cuanacht and Forlorn Swords regions can no longer be killed. The player must now kill them intentionally to prevent accidental murders by the player or other enemies.
  • Enemies no longer shoot backwards when the player dodges behind them.
  • An option has been added to the fireplace to bring Qrko back if he has been lost.
  • Visual change for spells such as “Impenetrable Shield,” “Mystical Protection,” and “Arcane Shield.”
  • (Items)The weight of items is now displayed to two decimal places for very light items; otherwise, it remains rounded to one decimal place.
  • (Items)The upgrade of 53 different weapons has been rebalanced so that they both take damage and improve their special effects.
  • (Items)Items now gain additional effects when upgraded in crafted sets.
  • (Items)The weight loss of armor when upgraded has been rebalanced.
  • (Summoning)Fixed an issue where player summons would sometimes not attack when outside the player’s field of view.
  • (Summoning)Fixed an issue where player summons would not attack NPCs that were not hostile to the player by default, even if the player was engaged in combat with them.
  • (Summoning)Summoned creatures should now be able to leave indoor areas with you.

  • The conditions for the achievement/trophy “And My Axe!” have been corrected.
  • Fixed: The achievement/trophy “Honor Above Life” was blocked when the quest “Brothers in Arms” was completed, even though the player had not given all dog tags to the quartermaster. If you were affected by this bug, you can now return to the Quartermaster and give him the remaining dog tags even though you have already completed the quest to earn the “Honor Above Life” achievement/trophy. Ninian’s dog tag is now required for the “Brothers in Arms” quest. Pate’s dog tag is no longer required for the “Honor Above Life” achievement/trophy.
