A player’s journey in No Man’s Sky may be coming to an end, but at least he can still enjoy the view and is congratulated by the lead developer himself.

While some of us just want to relax when we play games, others are looking for a challenge. Of course, not everyone goes as far as defeating Elden Ring bosses with the power of their mind, but they may simply choose the highest difficulty level or impose additional rules on themselves.

Reddit user Spirited_Ad3028, for example, played No Man’s Sky in permadeath mode, where virtual death means the loss of your entire character and all progress. Played because his journey now ends in a tragic but impressive way, even bringing the chief developer of No Man’s Sky onto the scene.

A stormy end

Anyone who has ever played No Man’s Sky knows that it can get really uncomfortable on some planets. Hard-to-reach celestial bodies in particular often have extreme weather conditions, where heat, cold, toxic air, or storms can cause you problems.

On higher difficulty settings, a planet like this can knock us out in no time. And Spirited_Ad accidentally landed on such a death planet. His ship is now stranded on a tiny island surrounded by huge waves. Storms and thunderstorms are constantly raging around him and the air is filled with toxic gases.

The worst part is that Spirited_Ad has no fuel left for his launch thrusters, so he can’t take off. His only hope is to gather resources on the planet. But if he leaves the ship, his character will die within seconds. It’s game over. Spirited_Ad writes:

All I can do is sit in my ship, watch the storms and wait for my oxygen to run out.

If that’s not an epic ending! In any case, it’s definitely more impressive than being eaten by a wild animal or stumbling over the edge of a cliff. Sean Murray, the lead developer of No Man’s Sky, apparently agrees. He posted a copy of the Reddit post on Twitter and simply commented with a saluting emoji () as a sign of respect.

Incidentally, it’s not impossible that Spirited_Ad was rescued after all. After all, No Man’s Sky can also be played in co-op mode, and someone on Reddit offered to help the player:

He could fly to him and bring some fuel so that his journey could continue. We don’t know whether the rescue mission was actually carried out. The stranded space traveler did not respond.
