A brother in the shadows – the possible spin-off is fueling speculation

For months, fans have been wondering where the “God of War” series is headed. Any official statements from Santa Monica Studios? None whatsoever. Instead, the rumor mill is buzzing more fiercely than ever. Several industry sources claim that two projects are currently in development at the same time.

Particularly exciting: a spin-off that is not supposed to follow the familiar storyline. Instead of Kratos, players could slip into the shoes of his brother Deimos. The story would tell the prequel, long before Kratos shook Mount Olympus. According to reports, Metroidvania-like gameplay is planned, in which players unlock new abilities bit by bit – a clear break from the familiar formula of the series.

Although neither Sony nor Santa Monica have confirmed anything yet, job postings in recent months indicate that a separate team is working on fresh gameplay approaches. For many fans, this prequel could be a welcome opportunity to get to know a character who has hardly been explored before.

“Definitely in development” – insider Henderson speaks plainly

However, the possible next main game is attracting even more attention. In his Insider Gaming podcast, well-known leaker Tom Henderson revealed that Kratos will continue to play the lead role – and will appear with a completely new weapon. Henderson said, “He will carry an Egyptian sword.”

This statement has sparked speculation that the new adventure will indeed be set in ancient Egypt. There have been hints in this direction for some time. Insider Daniel Richtman reported at the beginning of the year that Santa Monica had cast actors from the Middle East – a clear indication of a geographical and cultural change of scenery.

Whether the reveal will come soon remains to be seen. Many expect Sony to drop the first details at the next State of Play, which is set to take place shortly. Others assume that a title as important as the next “God of War” spin-off will be better suited to the grand stage of the Game Awards. Until then, only one thing is certain: the anticipation in the community is growing daily.
