Sometimes it’s the inconspicuous supporting characters that we grow particularly fond of. One fan is even dedicating an entire game to the rabbit icons.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is repeatedly praised for its realism, multi-layered characters, and a gripping story with many nuances. But it’s often the really small things that bring a smile to players’ faces.

Such as the little rabbit icons that pop up at the top of the screen from time to time to show you whether and how much you are arousing suspicion among your fellow humans.

One fan is particularly fond of these cute little hoppers. That’s why he’s now dedicating his own video game to them.

“Yes, it also includes battles on snails.”

The game is called “Johan,” and its protagonist is based on the long-eared characters from Kingdom Come 2. The title already has a Steam entry.
Behind it is a solo developer who goes by the name Vercors Studio. He is publicizing his project on Reddit, among other places, and is receiving thunderous applause.
You can already get a first glimpse of the animations:

[KCD2] I am making a full game based on the same medieval rabbits as in KCD2

In the video, you can see that not only Johan’s appearance is based on the icons from Kingdom Come 2, but also his movements. In the role-playing game, for example, the rabbit icons indicate whether NPCs have noticed something suspicious and are therefore looking around more closely, or whether they are ready to fight.

But Vercor’s studio also has more information about its game. In top comment under the post, he writes: ”Yes, it also includes battles on snails.”
Find out what this is all about below. On Steam, we also learn what kind of game Johan is supposed to be. In this Souls-like game, you fight as a rabbit in a medieval fantasy world with the help of manuscripts to summon mythical creatures.
You take up arms with your sword in a vendetta against knights and explore the world.

Wait a minute… Vendetta? There’s more to it than that! In fact, Johan himself sprang from one of these ominous manuscripts. Vercors Studio didn’t just pull this out of thin air. There are real manuscripts from different eras that depict rabbits in unusual contexts.

For example, a source from 1170 (via British Library) depicts the otherwise fluffy creatures as bloodthirsty avengers hanging their former hunters from the gallows. Medieval artists used these illustrations to visualize a “reversal” in which the classic roles of hunter and prey are reversed. They could therefore be described as satirical works.

In other images, the rabbits engage in knightly activities such as tournaments. For example, they ride on snails and wield lances, swords, and shields. That’s why Vercors Studio is incorporating this into its game.

This concept of killer rabbits has already been taken up, for example, in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where the rabbits of Caerbannog appear as terrifying monsters that even the most courageous men fear.

This also explains why Warhorse chose rabbits as an indicator of hostility. Killer rabbits are practically a medieval meme that fits perfectly into the world of Kingdom Come 2.
