It’s the biggest update for the co-op hit since the release of the Illuminate faction.

Big things are brewing in Helldivers 2: the next update for the sensational co-op shooter is packed with content and fulfills several long-standing community requests.

At the heart of the update, titled “Galactic Emergency,” is a new major offensive by the Illuminate faction.

According to a report from fleet command, the aliens have assembled a previously hidden main force and are attacking the most important target on the entire star map: Super Earth!

New Illuminate enemy types

Part of this offensive on the center of democracy are several new units that will appear on the Illuminate battlefields in the future and cause Helldivers a lot of headaches.

Here are the new enemies:

  • Stingray – a fighter jet that roars across the battlefield and fires on players from the air to support Illuminate ground troops.
  • Crescent Overseer – a new officer in the ranks of the Illuminate who uses his plasma artillery to take out Helldivers from long range and behind cover.
  • Fleshmob – A monster cobbled together from Voteless body parts and now unleashed by the Illuminate as an experimental bioweapon.

The developers also hint at the arrival of larger Illuminate combat ships, but these have not yet been sighted. Details are not yet known.

Weapon customization

A big request from many fans since the release of Helldivers 2 has been weapon customization. Now developer Arrowhead is finally making this dream come true and integrating an extensive gunsmith feature into the arsenal.

Here’s how weapon customization works:

  • Almost all primary weapons will receive slots (e.g., muzzle, magazine, sight, grip).
  • New attachments for these slots will be unlocked through weapon levels.
  • Unlocked attachments can then be purchased with requisition points.

This means that individual weapon builds are now possible for the first time – for example, you can increase ammunition capacity with drum magazines, influence recoil, or use different sights.

Store upgrade

The in-game store, which was often criticized for FOMO practices, has been revamped. Instead of regularly rotating purchasable armor pieces, all items are now available for Super Credits at any time.

New Weapons

The new Warbond “Masters of Ceremony” expands the arsenal with fresh weapons and gadgets. Included are the semi-automatic precision rifle R-2 Amendment, a cavalry saber, and the G-142 Pyrotech grenade, which sprays napalm all around upon impact. There are also ceremonial armor pieces, such as a spiked helmet.

New player rush

A glance at the numbers on SteamDB reveals that the new update immediately caused a spike in player numbers. More than 100,000 users logged in simultaneously on May 13 – the highest number of players since the arrival of the Illuminate in December 2024.
