Apparently, ignorance led to the tragic loss of a rare collector’s item.

A Japanese collector of video game relics recently shared a rather sad story. He ordered one of only 50 copies of the “Tsukihime Trial Edition” in existence worldwide online. However, the rare collector’s item was deliberately destroyed on its way to him.

Collector’s item completely destroyed

What kind of collector’s item is it? The “Tsukihime Trial Edition” is the debut work of Japanese developer Type-Moon.
The studio is probably best known to many for the huge Fate franchise.
Tsukihime is an eroge visual novel released in late 2000 that laid the foundation for the franchise’s great success. The “Trial Edition” is a demo of Tsukihime, of which only 50 copies were produced. This makes it extremely rare and valuable today.

The collector from Japan, known on X under the name “Keripo,” is apparently a big fan of Type-Moon. He recently finally managed to track down a copy of the “Tsukihime Trial Edition.” Of course, he captured the moment of unpacking it on video.

What he didn’t expect was that the disk on which the demo was stored would be completely destroyed in transit. The protective cover of the floppy disk was bent and torn open, and the magnetic disk inside was cut into pieces. The user writes that he actually had to cry because of this.

It is unclear whether this intervention was carried out by the shipping company, in this case DHL, or by US customs. However, all indications point to it being the US customs authorities.

Of course, we can only speculate as to the reason for the special inspection. It is possible that the package was simply selected at random and forcibly searched for drugs or similar items.

Perhaps the “Adults Only” label in conjunction with the anime artwork triggered the inspection. As one user writes in the comments, someone unfamiliar with the material could interpret it as pornographic, perhaps even involving minors.

The floppy disk has long since become obsolete. However, at the end of 2025, a designer attracted attention with a special case for SSDs that is modeled on the design of the floppy disk.

In any case, an almost irreplaceable part of gaming history has been destroyed in this way.

All that remains for the user is the hope that he will get a reasonably adequate replacement. However, he does not reveal how much he paid for the collector’s item.
