A Norwegian electronics mail order company has launched an ingenious marketing campaign in which young parents can get their hands on GTA 6.

Norwegian online electronics retailer Komplett.no has launched an ingenious marketing stunt to coincide with the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is causing quite a stir even outside Scandinavia.

Here’s what it’s all about: Anyone who gives birth at the same time as the release of GTA 6 on November 19, 2026, and lives in Norway will receive the video game as a gift from Komplett.no.

Parental leave with GTA

If you conceive a child now, you’ll be on parental leave just in time for GTA 6. Posts with statements like this have been circulating on social media for many months.
Since GTA 6 has been postponed several times, they have inevitably become relevant again and again. This time, electronics retailer Komplett.no is jumping on the bandwagon and even going one step further by giving parents the game for free if they time it right. At least, that’s what an advertising reel promises.
which is being shared via Instagram.

There are still about nine months to go until the release of GTA 6, so if you get started now, there’s a good chance you’ll have a baby just in time for GTA 6.& nbsp;On Reddit, however, there is a discussion about whether this is actually beneficial from a gaming perspective.  KnightOgGloaming argues:

When you’re on parental leave, the child will tire you out and need your help all day long. But in between, you have more time to play than you would in a 9-5 job.

One person who has a completely different opinion is, for example, ersihun:

As someone with children and parental leave, let me tell you, if you have a newborn, you won’t be spending much time playing video games.

Others argue that it depends heavily on the baby and whether both parents or just one parent is involved in caring for the child. The fact is, however, that the upcoming release of a video game is, without a doubt, not a good reason to bring a child into the world.

How many people does this affect?

With an area of around 385,000 square kilometers, Norway is a relatively large country, but with just 5.6 million inhabitants, it has an extremely small population. By comparison, Germany has a similar area of 357,000 square kilometers and a population of 83.6 million.

And, as in almost all European countries, Norway also suffers from a low birth rate. This means that  according to the UN data platform Population Pyramid, an average of just 123 babies are born per day.
So even if all parents were to claim their legal copy of the game, the financial damage would be disproportionate to the marketing effectiveness.
