The next FSR update is on its way: AMD has announced a December release date for the “Redstone” technologies. A recently released shooter has already showcased one of the new features.

At the last Computex in May 2025, AMD announced “Redstone,” a major update for FSR 4 (“FidelityFX Super Resolution”), which is set to take the upscaling process to a new level with a total of four technologies.

After setting the course for this last August, AMD has now announced the date on which the new technologies will be presented in more detail, if not released in full: Redstone is coming on December 10, 2025.

FSR 4: Four new features – one of which has been available for a few days now

The company announced this in a short, half-minute teaser on its YouTube channel.

In addition to a few rather blurry images of games, AMD cites December 10 as the premiere date for Redstone, but leaves open whether this will actually be the final release of version 1.0. The original announcement mentioned a Redstone release in the second half of 2025, so there isn’t much time left.

This is certainly conceivable; after all, the first game already featured Redstone technology. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 relies on the new “FSR Ray Regeneration,” which is designed to avoid noise during path tracing with only a few rays of light. Other technologies include:

  • FSR Super Resolution: So far, only an “improved AI model” for AI upscaling is known – details are still pending.
  • Neural Radiance Caching: Efficient and realistic calculation of light in 3D scenes using AI-supported neural networks.
  • Frame Generation: With this, AMD is switching from the previous vector-based approach to an ML-based calculation of intermediate images to improve the frame rate for FSR 4.
